    • Norman MacMillan and family also lived at the Cùl, or Buchanan Mountain. The sons John and Donald went to the USA, while William went to New Zealand. There were also two sons named Norman and Malcolm and a daughter Ann who married Malcolm MacIver.

      • Thanks Clarence. Normans Norman inherited the farm at Buchanans Mountain. He is my grandmother Euphemia MacMillans father. I did see Peggy MacLeod the other day and we exchanged what we knew of the family.

  5. I’M LOOKING FOR THE SPECIFIC LOCATION OF MY DESCENDANT DONALD MCCHARLES SOMETIMES (CHARLESON) WHO WITH HIS – FAMILY -FROM SCOTLAND TO MIDDLE RIVER CB. HE IS BURIED ON HIS BUSH FARM. IF YOU CAN HELP ME I WOULD APPRECIATE IT. HE WAS BORN IN 1780. HE LEFT MIDDLE RIVER AROUND 1854. THANKS GARY MCCHARLES.

  6. Looking for any information on a William McRae (sometimes misspelled McRay), born approximately 1855 on Cape Breton Island. His father was David McRae b approximately 1818 – 1825 in Nova Scotia, and his mother was Catherine nee MacCharles or McCharles, b approximately 1823, also born in Nova Scotia. He appears to have had a brother John who eventually married and lived in Boston. William himself was in the US Census in Illinois, then married Emily Jane Grier in Schulyer, Nebraska and had a son Kenneth (my great-grandfather). Then he disappeared.

I’ve scoured the Presbyterian cemetery and found lots of MacRaes and McRaes – but no leads on my line.

Is it possible that the MacRaes came “directly” from Kintail and the McRaes from Applecross?
